Obituary

The funeral service for Roland "Pappy" Barrett will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, with Pastor Terrill Bramstedt officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elgin Cemetery.

Roland Lewis Barrett, 87, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas and formerly of Elgin, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.  He was born September 18, 1931in Chicago, IL to Lester and Verna (Koepsell) Barrett. Roland served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.  In March 1958 he married Lougine Ponto in Elgin, MN.

Roland and Lougine lived in Rochester for 12 years before moving to Elgin.  Roland worked for IBM in Rochester for 33 years.  After retiring they moved to Cherokee Village in Arkansas where they have lived for 23 years, and in the process of moving back to Minnesota.  Roland enjoyed going hunting, fishing, woodworking, and was an avid reader, especially reading history and Christian books.

Roland is survived by his loving wife, Lougine Barrett of Utica, MN; sons, Brian (Dawn) Barrett of Lake City, Craig (Prachnha) Barrett of Bertram, TX, Dean Barrett of Utica; daughter, Jen (Paul) Stutelberg of Albertville; two grandchildren Spencer Smith and Bryce Smith; and sister, Phyllis Swarts of California.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers-in-law, Earl "Bud" Ponto and Ervin Senst.

Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
