Ronald "Ron" Merlyn Fahrenz, 93, of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview.  He was born May 9, 1926 in Binghamton, NY to Merlyn and Vera (Rutledge) Fahrenz. He grew up and attended school in Binghamton, graduating from high school in 1944.  He proudly served his country during WWII in the US Navy as a Signalman, entering the service on July 12, 1944 and honorably discharged on July 12, 1946.  On April 16, 1946 he married Jane Gillette in Binghamton, NY; she died May 30, 1978.  On March 23, 1991 he married Betty Rott Schroeder in Rochester, MN.

Ron was employed by IBM in New York and Rochester, MN for 42 years, retiring in 1990.  He had residences in New York and Rochester, and moved to Elgin in 1991.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Fahrenz of Elgin; son, Lee (Becky) Fahrenz of Aurora, IL; daughters, Kristin (Bob) Felten of Reno, NV, Karen (Jim) Dillinger of Austin, TX, and Marta (Brent Collins) Fahrenz of Bloomington; step-daughters, Kathie (Dale) Grobe and Carrie Schroeder both of Elgin; eight grandchildren, Kristi (Greg) Chandler, Jeff Dillinger, Paul Felten, Alissa Fahrenz, Meredith Fahrenz, Ben Fahrenz, Holly (Steve) Todd, and Aaron Grobe; 11 great-grandchildren, Mason, Grace, Davis, Nolan, Faith, Lincoln, Mercy, Jackson Chandler, and Weston, Jett, Beau Todd.  He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Jane, sister, Wanda, and grandson, Ross Grobe.

A memorial service for Ronald "Ron" Fahrenz will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 52668 275 ^th Avenue, Plainview/Elgin, with Pastor Krista Henning-Ferkin officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.  Burial with Military Rites will be in the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin.

Memorials are preferred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church building fund in lieu of flowers.
