Ruby Katheryn Richardson died on December 8, 2013 at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester, Minnesota. She died peacefully, in her sleep, when she joined "her" Bud in heaven.

Ruby was born December 30, 1916 in Willow City, North Dakota to Oscar and Clara (Bickel) Fred. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1935. She then attended Valley City State College, North Dakota where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1938. Ruby began her teaching career in Elgin, Minnesota where she taught high school chemistry. She then joined the staff at the Rushford Public Schools and Dover-Eyota Public Schools. Ruby began teaching medical shorthand at Rochester Community College in 1966. She became a member of the faculty at Winona State University in 1968 where she also obtained a Master of Science Degree in Business Education. She retired from there in 1980. Teaching was a life-long vocation and eventually a lasting memory for Ruby. She continued to correspond with former students until declining health prevented it. Ruby and Bud's health prompted a move to Meadow Lakes Senior Living in Rochester in September, 2010.

Ruby was also a life-time member of Peace United Methodist Church. She was very active there teaching Sunday school, creating banners and altar care. Ruby was an accomplished artist and enjoyed working with many art mediums.

Ruby married Lyle (Bud) Richardson at the Elgin Methodist Church in 1946. They enjoyed a devoted marriage for sixty-six years. Ruby was devastated when Bud passed away in 2012 and often expressed that she was eagerly anticipating when they could be together again in heaven. Ruby and Bud had two sons, Lon and Steve. She was always very supportive of them and their paths through life. She also was tremendously proud of her four grandchildren and took great joy in them.

Ruby is survived by her two sons Lon (Dorothy) and Steve (Darlene), four grand-children Lalena, Benji, Jed and Sara, six great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Hazel Ghylin of Bismarck, North Dakota, four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in law and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister and her parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, Minnesota. Ruby's funeral and celebration of her life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12 at the Peace United Methodist Church between Elgin and Plainview. Her burial will immediately follow at the Elgin Cemetery.
