Scott Edward Shones, 62, of Hammond, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic Health System, Lake City Hospital. He was born October 9, 1960, in Lake City, to Leroy and Vera (Harmon) Shones. He attended elementary school in Millville and graduated from Elgin-Millville High School in 1979. Scott served his country in the Army National Guard from 1979 – 1985. On July 16, 1999, he married Kathryn "Katie" Bleed at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Scott was a lifetime resident of the Hammond and Millville area. He owned and operated Shones Concrete for over 20 years. His favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, and camping, he especially enjoyed morel mushroom hunting each spring. Scott also loved to play cards, dice games and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Millville and the Millville Valley American Legion Post #579.
Scott is survived by his wife, Katie Shones of Hammond; daughter, Rebekah (Carter Wendt) Shones and son, Jerome Shones both of Hammond; five sisters, Connie Salgy of Lake City, Vickie (Randy) Hoekstra of Lewiston, Dawn (Jim) Danckwart of Lake City, Carol (David) Hobbs of Millville, and Shelly (Terry) Kopp of Lake City; two brothers, Glenn (Dawn) Shones of Plainview, and Bruce Shones of Millville; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, Randy Salgy and Jon Bleed.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Millville Valley Legion in Millville, with Pastor Doris Ruben officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Millville Valley Legion and one hour prior to the service at the Legion on Saturday.
