Sheila Marie Curran Baker, 86, of Plainview, passed away on May 9th, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Mary's Campus in Rochester surrounded by her loving family.
Sheila Marie Curran was born on December 16th, 1939, in the farmhouse that was built by her grandparents which she resided in her entire life. She attended Braille and Sight Saving School in Fairbault, MN for 5 years in addition to Plainview Public Schools. She married Robert G. Baker on August 11th, 1956. They had 1 daughter and later divorced. She was a lifelong member of St. Joachim's Catholic Church and lived a life driven by her faith. She was a caregiver for a number of family and friends throughout the years. You could typically find her in her kitchen with the radio on and talking on the phone with her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, and spending time with all of those she loved. She was truly the heart and matriarch of the family with an infectious smile and laugh that could light up any room.
She is survived by her two granddaughters, Shannon (Shane) Johnson of Byron and Tasha (Timothy) McDonough of Kellogg, seven great-grandchildren, Macy (Adam), Madison (Justin), Keagan, Carter, Collin, Izzy, and Theo, two great-great-grandchildren, and her foster son, Terrance Connolly. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Verdick (Baker), her mother, Arvilla Curran, her grandparents, aunt, and uncles.
To know her was to love her— she will forever be missed.
The Funeral Mass for Sheila will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19th, at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview with Father Tojy Jose officiating. The burial will follow the service at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery – Conception in rural Kellogg. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
