Shirley R. Zell, 86, of Lake City, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, August 19, 2019.  She was born April 23, 1933 in Lake City to Erle and Hazel Martin.

Shirley grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951.  She went on to Winona State Teachers College graduating in 1953.  Shirley taught second grade in Hastings.  On June 25, 1955 she married Willard Zell in Lake City.  Shirley enjoyed spending time reading, gardening, bird watching, and playing cards.  She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Willard Zell of Lake City; daughter, Jayne Zell of Lake City, son, Mark (MaryG) Zell of Round Rock, TX, daughter, Mary (Tim) Dallman of Rochester; three granddaughters, Alex (Dylan) Dallman – Essing, Clare (Zech) Dallman – Novinger, and Zoë Zell.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother, Merle (Gertrude) Martin, and sister, Lois (Richard) Larsen, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Lu Zell and Mary Zell.

A private graveside service will be held at Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.

Memorials preferred to the family for donation to "Helen Keller International" dedicated to saving and improving sight.
