Steven Wayne Rud's Obituary
The memorial service for Steven "Steve" Rud will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home Chapel in Rochester with Pastor Tony Deach officiating. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery on Monday, February 27 at 3:30 p.m. with Military Rites by the American Legion.
Mr. Rud, 64, of Elgin, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 after a brief illness of bile duct cancer at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.
Steven Wayne Rud was born December 6, 1952 in St. Peter to Richard and Phyllis (Hoffmeister) Rud. His elementary years he spent at the Shaw School in Austin for grades K-3, and then in Rochester he attended grades 4-6 were at Pinewood and then Central Junior High School. In 1971 he graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester. He was active in Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout. Steve went on to attend Kansas City Community College in Kansas, and received an Associated Degree in Applied Sciences from Rochester Community College. He also attended Union Hall.
Steve served in the US Army with the 82nd Airborne from 1972 to 1994. On April 30, 1999 he married Monica Miller in Rochester, they later divorced but remained partners. He moved to Elgin several years ago.
Steve served his IBEW Apprenticeship as a Limited Energy Technician. He was a low voltage electrician for various companies in the Rochester area including, Adair, Broadband, Jaguar, and retired for medical reason from Charter Communications in 2016, as a Customer Assistance Specialist. Steve was a member of the American Legion where he was the reigning Commander, and was also a member and past president of the Rochester Eagles, and a member of Rochester 40 & 8.
Steve is survived by his sister, Norma Jean Chambers of Round Rock TX; and two brothers, Kevin (Laura) Rud of Rochester, and Jay Rud of Round Rock, TX; and his significant other, Monica Miller of Plainview. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son.
Friends and family may visit from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home in Rochester.
