The funeral service for Thomas W. Maas will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4th, at Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church in Rochester, with Pastor Jeff Limpert officiating. Burial will be in the Millville Cemetery at 12 noon on Friday, June 5th in Millville.
Mr. Maas, 69, of Millville passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, May 28, 2015 at his home in rural Millville.
Thomas Walter Maas was born May 29, 1945 in Battle Creek, MI to John and Avis (Haglund) Lowe. He moved with his family to the Minneapolis area where he attended school, graduating from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in 1963. Tom went on to Dunwoody Institute for two years. He served his country by serving in the National Guard for several years. On June 11, 1966 he married Gail Gruenhagen in Minneapolis.
Tom worked for IBM in St. Louis, MO and in Rochester, MN for 12 years. In 1977 he started farming in rural Millville and was farming at the present time. He enjoyed going fishing, deer hunting, playing horseshoes and golf. Tom especially loved to pick asparagus in the road ditch, which he had been doing since he was a young boy.
Tom was a member of Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church in Rochester.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Gail Maas of Millville; his children, Jason (Catherine) Maas of Millville and Kelly (Richard) Montanye of Albert Lea; his mother, Avis Swenson of Bloomington; two step-grandchildren, Dakota and Garrette. He was preceded in death by his father and step-father.
Friends and family may visit from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview and one hour prior to service on Thursday at the church.
