The funeral service for Velate Schuchard will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, at Grace United Church of Christ in Millville with Rev. Dr. Bob Sommers officiating. Burial will follow in the Millville Cemetery.
Velate Christine Schuchard, 94, of Plainview and formerly of Millville, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Mayo Clinic – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. She was born August 20, 1924 in Viola Township, Olmsted County to Benhart and Clara (Pries) Uthke. She attended rural Olmsted County Schools. Velate married Frederick Schuchard, Jr. on October 11, 1946 in Eyota.
Velate was a homemaker and enjoyed raising their ten children, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Velate enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, was a Twins and Viking Fan, and enjoyed the music on Sunday at Green Prairie Place. She especially enjoyed her morning coffee with the ladies at the Millville Café. She shared with her sister Bernice, the honor of being a 50 year member of Grace United Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Millville Legion Auxiliary.
Velate is survived by her ten children; Sharon (Joseph) Rahrman, and Barbara Carrels both of Lake City, Janette (Paul) Briggs of Elba, Carol (Joe) Lambrecht of Talmoon, MN, Dorothy (Jack) Diedrich, Donald (Lisa) Schuchard, Frank (Cindy) Schuchard, and John (Kim) Schuchard all of Millville, Russell (Mary) Schuchard, of Plainview, and Dennis (Pam) Schuchard of Elgin; 23 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lavaine (Marguarite) Uthke of Eyota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, Bernice and Luella, and 4 brothers, Charles, Elmer, Marvin, and Alvin, and a grandson, Frederick.
Friends and family may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
