Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Velma Mickow will be held on Monday, November 14, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview followed with a Memorial Service starting at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Karna Hagen Moskalik officiating at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mickow, 94, of Rochester, passed away at her home at Cottagewood Senior Community on Friday, November 4, 2016. Velma donated her body to Mayo Clinic for Anatomical Study.

Velma Viora Martin was born October 6, 1922 in Olmsted County to Edward and Lydia (Giese) Martin. On December 12, 1945 she married Laurence Mickow in Hammond.

Velma lived her lifetime in the Rochester area. She was employed by the Welfare Office's in both Wabasha County and Olmsted County. Velma was very active in the Rochester Senior Center, playing 500 cards, and square dancing. She especially loved square dancing with Laurence Mickow, who passed away in 1994. He was a bomber pilot in WWII and was a POW for the last 18 months of the war. Velma was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Paula Hardin of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, and her son, Thomas.
