The funeral service for Vivian Zarling will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview.

Mrs. Zarling, 94, of Plainview, passed away early on Thursday morning, November 17, 2016 at Greenwood Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview.

Vivian May Haessig was born May 12, 1922 in rural Woodland, Wabasha County to Clarence and Mary (Long) Haessig. She attended country schools in the Plainview area, and graduated from Plainview High School. While attending high school Vivian worked as a waitress at Timm's Café, Ma's Café, and the Plainview Hotel. Then in February of 1942 she went to Rochester and worked at the Hageheimers Restaurant. On November 28, 1945 she married Vernon Zarling at Nashua, IA.

After her marriage the Zarling's lived on the farm and worked for Herman Zarling. In August of 1946 they moved into Plainview. Vivian worked at Eggers Grocery. In 1947 they purchased their first truck and started a trucking business, and also bought and operated the Skelly Station. They continued with their trucking business and hauled milk for the local creamery as well as other trucking jobs. Vivian worked alongside her husband as the bookkeeper. Vivian was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Vivian is survived by her son, Vernon Zarling, Jr. of St. Charles; three grandchildren, Savanna, Lisa, and Stacy; six great-grandchildren, Austin, Lilly, Anyla, Eckland, Eugene, and Noah; and two sisters, Iola Briske of Rochester, and Verna (Donald) Grover of Taylors Falls, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Maurice, and Clayton, and one sister, Doris.

Friends and family may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
