The funeral mass for Walter "Walt" Kruger will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 12, at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Joachim's Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors by the Plainview American Legion Post #179.

Walter Joseph Kruger, 88, of Plainview passed away, Monday evening, March 5, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. He was born April 24, 1929 in Quincy Township, Olmsted County to Joseph and Kathryn (Puetz) Kruger. At the age of 4 the family moved to Conception in rural Kellogg. Walt graduated from Plainview High School in 1948.

Walt worked for Don Roemer Construction in Wabasha until entering the US Army. He served as a Corporal in the 8th Army 62nd Engineers for 15 months in Korea where he built roads and mash hospitals.

On April 18, 1955 Walt married the love of his life, Yvonne Zell at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview. In 1963 they moved to rural Plainview.

Starting in 1962 Walt owned and operated Kruger Construction for 36 years. With his family he also operated a snow removal company for 40 years. Walt retired in 1998 but continued to enjoy master wood working.

Walt was a lifetime member of the Plainview American Legion and Wabasha VFW. He was also a member of St. Joachim's Catholic Church. Walt enjoyed going fishing, and especially loved spending time with his family.

Walt is survived by his wife, Yvonne Kruger of Plainview; his children, Doug (Karen) Kruger of Waterloo, IA, Jay (Jude) Kruger of Kasson, and Kay (Martin) Buzsek of Farmington Hills, Mich.; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine (Donald) Murphy of Plainview. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Vernon Kruger.

Friends and family may visit Sunday, March 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
